Living Room Decor
Assessing the Project
When we first bought our home we knew the original layout of this space was just not functional. There was no way to set furniture aesthetically pleasing or in a functional manner due to a half wall to the right and the basement door to the left that when opened it would block the entrance to this living room.

Removing the Wall
As soon as we began the floor project we knew there was a decision to be made with regard to the half wall that was not only built poorly as it wiggled upon touch, but also served no purpose whatsoever. By the time Jim had laid out the new floors close to the half wall, we decided to remove it and have the opening to this room be precisely where the wall was.

Once the wall was removed the space looked so much bigger and that was the jumpstart point to decorating our living room. We didn’t want to do more renovation to this particular area other than floors, baseboards and wall paint because down the road we will be renovating the fireplace wall, adding built-ins and also working on the ceiling. With our “To Do” list of projects a mile long, we will come back to this room at some point in the future.

Since our old furniture did not accommodate our needs nor fit the space, we ended up purchasing a sectional that allows all members of our family to sit comfortably and have the window view from the seating area. We added a matching coffee and side table set that features the rustic and modern feel that we were aiming for. In order to achieve the warm and cozy look, we opted for decor in neutral colors with different textures like the velvet curtains and faux fur decorative throw pillows. We also added a high-low pile height Moroccan rug. It’s particular design of geometric patterns in rows of cream stand out against the gray background in a very pleasing way. This option is a great choice for creating a cozy environment in any given lower-traffic rooms.

Family Photos
The last items we used to tie the ambiance of our living room were the framed pictures and wall sconces. I wanted to truly embrace that this was to be the room where we would always enjoy as a family, where Christmas presents were to be opened and movie watching would take place. What better way to do that than to add the images of all the members of our family to cherish each moment? So far this has to be one of the most used spaces in our home, we are truly happy with the transformation and the results.
